White Sox Complete 8th Inning Rally, Beat Kansas City 4-3, Gain Ground On Twins

Less than 24 hours after so many people called the AL Central race over and were declaring the Twins postseason bound, the White Sox rallied back to get a late inning win and moved to within 5 games of the Twins in the AL Central.

Starter Mark Buehrle’s outing was much better than the 3 earned runs and 7 hits given up in 7 innings says. That’s only because once again, he was struck by the balk happy umpiring crew headed by Joe West.

Royals starter Bruce Chen had a good outing going 7 innings as well, giving up just 1 earned run on 4 hits.

The scoring started in the 3rd when rookie Brent Morel hit a shot to center that gave him his first hit, home run, and RBI in the Major Leagues and gave the White Sox the 1-0 lead. The Royals would tie the game in the 4th when Willie Bloomquist hit a double to right, scoring Brayan Pena from 2nd after Angel Hernandez called the 1st balk of the night on Mark Buehrle.

In the top of the 5th, Buehrle was called for his 2nd balk of the night and that’s when Ozzie Guillen had enough. He charged out of the dugout and into the face of home plate umpire Angel Hernandez and was promptly ejected from the game. Guillen also yelled at crew chief Joe West at 3rd while walking off the field.

The Royals took the lead in the 6th with an RBI double by Willie Bloomquist and a RBI single by Yuniesky Betancourt to give the Royals the 3-1 lead.

The White Sox however wouldn’t give up. Alex Rios hit a RBI double to score Alexei Ramirez and with 2 outs, A.J. Pierzynski hit a double to the wall in center, scoring Alex Rios and pinch runner Brent Lillibridge, to give the White Sox the 4-3 lead.

J.J. Putz had come in to pitch the 8th and in the 9th, rookie Chris Sale gave up just a hit and picked up his second career save as the White Sox won in dramatic fashion by a score of 4-3.

With the Twins losing, the White Sox now move 5 games behind them in the division and making the upcoming 3 game series even more important. There is still plenty of time to make up games so it’s not even close to being over.

The White Sox look to win 2 in a row tonight, sending Edwin Jackson to the mound to fave Kyle Davies. Jackson has pitched wonderfully for the White Sox since coming over the trade and we need him to do the same again tonight.

I’ll have the recap after the game and as always……. GO WHITESOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
