San Francisco Giants Edgar Renteria Has Option Declined: This Is A Wise Move
[picappgallerysingle id="10125529"]The World Champion Giants (Nice ring to it, right) declined to exercise their $9.5 million option on World Series MVP Edgar Renteria on Thursday, instead paying him a $500,000 buyout. A five-time All-Star, Renteria batted .412 (7-for-17) with two homers and six RBIs in the Series. After rotting on the bench for most of the year plagued by injuries, Renteria came through in the clutch big time.
However, he is not worth 9.5 million. He is talking about retiring for a reason. If he wanted to come back on the cheap that would be fine, but you are paid for what you are going to produce, not what you have done. The Giants made their first emotionally tough decision in possibly cutting ties with the popular Renteria.
I am interested to see who they sign or is Uribe the everyday shortstop? Time will tell. The offseason has begun. Stay tuned.
