Chase Utley Hopes to be Back by All-Star Break
News broke today that is excellent for Mets fans, but disappointing for Phillies fans.
According to Rotowire, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley spoke with the media today and uttered some words that will not delight the Philadelphia fan base.
While Utley claimed that he was making progress in the rehabilitation for his knee, he also said that his goal was to be back before the all-star break. Although no official time table was given for his return, this news is very disappointing.
Utley has gone from being one of the best second baseman in baseball to being frequently injured and constantly missing time. While it is not a recurring injury, it is still very frustrating.
Ruben Amato Jr, Phillies General Manager, has said that he will not place Utley on the 60 day disabled list. This is a little encouraging because it means that Amato must believe that Utley will be back before the end of May.
The Phillies will be without Utley to start the season, but I think they have enough pitching to survive. The Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, and Florida Marlins are all delighted to hear that Utley will start the season on the DL.
