According to Adam Rubin of ESPN, Jason Bay may be headed to the disabled list.
Bay was scratched from today’s Spring Training game because of a strained intercostal muscle in his left rib cage. This injury might force Bay to begin the season on the DL, handicapping the Mets even further to start the season.
After a miserable 2010 season, Jason Bay was looking to rebound in a big way and regain his 2009 form. This injury starts him off at a disadvantage and all of the positive energy that surrounded him for all of Spring Training may soon turn sour.
Bay is expected to go visit doctors in Port St. Lucie and have his injury further examined. Mets GM Sandy Alderson was unaware of the severity of the strain and said he could possibly wait until the last second to make his decision regarding the disabled list.
This news is very disappointing for Mets fans, who expected big things out of Bay this year and may now see him miss some time to start the 2011 campaign. We will see what happens after Bay visits the doctors and we will update you on the situation once new information becomes available.
