Rajai Davis a late scratch on Blue Jays lineup, Nix in for Snider
Just some news coming in before today’s game between the Blue Jays vs the Twins:
Rajai Davis is a late scratch to the lineup with an ankle issue. He’s said to have hurt himself during a rundown in the first inning of yesterday’s game – he ended up safe at 1st base on the play and went on to steal 3rd, but was apparently limping a bit after the game. It’s not likely a serious injury, and he looked fine on the field during the rest of the game last night. The official line is that he’s day-to-day, and the team likely just wants to rest him as a precaution. Davis will be replayed by Mike McCoy in centre field.
Also ailing a little bit is Travis Snider, who has been bothered by a sore hip since the last week of spring. He made it through yesterday’s game without issue as well, but will be rested today against Francisco Liriano of the Twins in favour of newcomer Jayson Nix. The move serves the dual purpose of not aggravating anything that might be hurting with Snider, as well as playing the lefty-on-lefty matchup with Liriano. Not that Snider will be sitting against lefties regularly this year (his splits last year vs southpaws weren’t all that different from his hitting against right-handers), but with him not feeling 100%, it’s an opportunity to play the matchup and see give Nix an shot in the lineup early in the season.
JP Arencibia, yesterday’s offensive hero, also won’t be playing today with Molina in to catch Kyle Drabek.
