There were plenty of reasons to expect that the Brewers wouldn’t just march to the 2011 NL Central crown. And starting on the road versus the defending division champs was one of them. So was the absence of Zack Greinke.
Still, no one expected this. Not 0-4 after the home opener.
It’s not panic time yet, but it is “serious concern” time. The offense has sputtered–with the notable exception of Rickie Weeks–and the bullpen has struggled. There is some solace in the starting pitching–Yovani Gallardo was solid in the opener, and Chris Narveson didn’t allow any runs in the home opener while striking out six.
It’s a long season, so there’s no need to write the Brewers off yet. But Tuesday’s game now looms that much larger.
