San Francisco Giants: Andres Torres Strains Achilles
San Francisco Giants outfielder Andres Torres had to leave in the fourth inning of last night’s win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Two batters after catching a line drive off the bat of Lance Berkman, Torres was unable to go after a ball hit to shallow center by Colby Rasmus.
Amy Gutierrez, in-game reporter for Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, provided updates on Torres’s condition through her Twitter account (@AmyGGiants):
“#sfgiants Torres left clubhouse in a boot & a with a crutch. He said he did not want to put pressure on his foot.”
“Confirmed from #sfgiants trainer Torres has a strained left achilles.”
After he came out, Aaron Rowand, who had started in rightfield, moved to center. Taking Rowand’s spot in right was Nate Schierholtz, who ended up going 3-for-3 with a triple.
Outfielder Cody Ross is currently on the disabled list with a torn calf muscle.
