Twins call up Hoey

By andrewscheibe

With the recent news that Joe Nathan will be pushed to the back of the bullpen it was obvious the Twins needed another power arm out of the ‘pen. So after today’s game the Twins announced that righthander Jim Hoey would be called up from Rochester and Jeff Manship would be sent down.

I like the move, Hoey is a guy who throws hard and strikes guys out, something the bullpen really lacks. Hoey has a bit of a wild streak, but it’s a fair trade off for a power arm out of the ‘pen. Hopefully his walks don’t become an issue that keep him from being effective at the major league level. I am pretty excited to see him pitch sometime this week. And I am pretty interested to see where Gardy decides to use him. My guess is he will get a shot early to set up Matt Capps, though. Hopefully Hoey can be a nice replacement for Jesse Crain, because with his offseason departure there has been a bit of a whole in the ‘pen.
