According to MLB.com’s Joe Frisario, the Florida Marlins are almost ready to announce the naming rights to their new ballpark which will open in 2012.
No firm date has been set in stone yet, but it is best believed that the naming rights will be announced in mid-May.
Team president David Samson would have liked to have found a sponsor by this year’s opening day but those plans have taken longer than originally expected.
The team doesn’t only hope to put the name on top of their brand new stadium but they hope the new partner would be integrated into the Marlins’ brand as they look to host the 2015 All-Star Game.
We are all psyched to see who will come and sponsor the upstart Marlins.
The stadium will feature 37,000 seats along with a retractable roof. The stadium will also feature restaurants that will accesible from the outside. There will also be about a 7,000 square foot restaurant that will be open all year round.
Don’t forget though, the Florida Marlins are also planning on changing their name to the Miami Marlins starting next year.
