Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher Roy Halladay Wins Wanamaker Award

By Cody Swartz

I bet you never heard of the John Wanamaker Award. Neither had I.

But Roy Halladay won it for his play last season, a year in which he won 21 games, posted a 2.44 ERA, threw a perfect game and a postseason no-hitter, and won the NL Cy Young award unanimously.

The award is given annually to the Philadelphia athlete, team, or organization that has done the most to reflect the city of Philadelphia.

It was the fourth time in the last five years a Phillie won it. Ryan Howard won it in 2006, Jimmy Rollins won it in 2007, and the whole team won it in 2008 after winning the World Series.
