When the team optioned Vance Worley to Triple-A Lehigh Valley yesterday, it announced it would bring a pitcher up to take his spot.
It turns out Mike Zagurski gets the nod, as the 28-year old lefty will be added to the 25-man roster today. Zagurski joins J.C. Romero and Antonio Bastardo as one of three left-handed relievers on the team.
Zagurski began the 2011 season battling for a job on the Phillies’ roster. He was one of the last men sent down to Triple-A, then was called up a few weeks later, and sent back down on April 29 when catcher Dane Sardinha was called up.
Zagurski is 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 1.1 innings pitched this season. For his career, he is 1-0 with a 6.98 ERA in parts of three seasons with the Phillies.
