The Pittsburgh Pirates are a half game out of first place in the NL Central. No, Bobby Bonilla and Andy Van Slyke are not donning the black and yellow still…
The Oakland Athletics are 13 games out of first place – even with a nice home stand against the Angels. So while the Pirates of the world look to add talent, the A’s of the world look to unload theirs.
A couple of names that have surfaced on the Pirates radar are Josh Willingham and Conor Jackson. Willingham has been the A’s best power hitter this year but of course, that’s relative. He is also a free agent who will most likely respect more than the A’s are willing to pay him… a story we’ve never heard before right? Conor Jackson is a utility-type player whose stock is pretty high right now after his first career grand salami yesterday.
I say trade them both, get some more young talent in – grow around the future of Jemile Weeks, core pitching staff, Michael Choice, Michael Taylor, Grant Green, and Kurt Suzuki (hopefully if that guy can remind himself how to hit).
Bottom line – time to rebuild… DO IT NOW!
