Philadelphia Phillies Asking About Tampa Bay Rays Outfielder B.J. Upton

By Cody Swartz

Recent MLB reports have linked several teams to B.J. Upton, notably the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals.

Upton is not having a good season so far, at just .229/.310/.399 and he seems to have peaked at age 23 or 24 back in ’07 or ’08. He does have 15 home runs and 53 RBIs this year, and he’s a power-hitting righty who also has 23 stolen bases.

Upton had a dynamic postseason back in ’08 for the Rays, hitting seven home runs in just 16 games, and he could definitely have an impact for the Phillies down the stretch. Upton won’t become a free agent until after the 2012 season, so he would be property of the Phillies for a year and a few months at minimum.
