Ryan Doumit Advancing Rehab, Michael McKenry Injury Update

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced the promotion of catcher Ryan Doumit to the team’s AAA affiliate. Doumit has been transferred from the team’s high-A affiliate in Bradenton, skipping AA-Altoona completely.

Doumit is expected to return to the big leagues sometime in the first week of August, where he will split time with Michael McKenry behind the plate.

Speaking of The Fort, McKenry is fine after being hit on top of the hand with a swing in last night’s 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves. He will be in the lineup tonight for game two.

Shortstop Chase d’Arnaud will be available only to pinch hit or pinch run tonight. He has a fractured pinky but will avoid a trip to the disabled list.

Here’s tonight’s lineup:

1. Xavier Paul, LF

2. Garrett Jones, RF

3. Neil Walker, 2B

4. Andrew McCutchen, CF

5. Pedro Alvarez, 3B

6. Lyle Overbay, 1B

7. Ronny Cedeno, SS

8. McKenry, C

9. Jeff Karstens, P

The Braves will trot out Tommy Hanson (11-5, 3.06) to battle the Bucs’ hitters tonight. It’ll be a tough one, for sure, but Jeff Karstens (8-5, 2.28) can keep the Pirates in this game, there’s no reason the Bucs can’t scrounge up a few runs and take a 2-0 series lead.

Game time is 7:10. Let’s do it.
