In a move that has seemingly caught everyone off-guard, especially the players themselves, MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart is reporting that the Houston Astros have elected ship both third-baseman Chris Johnson AND first-baseman Brett Wallace to the Oklahoma City Redhawks, the team’s minor league Triple-A affiliate.
This serves as astonishing roster turmoil for a team that just parted ways with its two most prominent players.
Perhaps the organization is executing all of these moves in an effort to increase revenue as all of the fans in attendance are going to need to purchase a gameday program as they enter Monday’s game (at home against the Cincinnati Reds) just to know who any of the players are!
I’m not sure what to make of all of this. It’s certainly unexpected. And it’s definitely bold. It will no doubt spark considerable controversy among the fan-base.
At least Brett Wallace is going somewhere where he’ll actually be inserted into the line-up for every game now…
