Punishments Handed Out for Giants, Phillies Brawl

The brawl between the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies after Ramon Ramirez hit Shane Victorino has resulted in punishments for four players.

Two players on each team were penalized for their actions.

Ramirez and Giants catcher Eli Whiteside were both fined undisclosed sums.

Only one player was suspended.

That was Victorino, who got three games. He was also fined an undisclosed amount. He is appealing the sentence.

As taboo as it is to make contact with an umpire, I’m surprised Victorino was not more harshly punished for repeatedly shoving home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski.

The other Philadelphia player to get reprimanded by the league was third baseman Placido Polanco, who was also fined an undisclosed amount.

The Giants and Phillies will not face each other again in the regular season. The season series was four wins for Philadelphia to three wins for San Francisco.
