Longoria is heating up
Tampa Bay Rays 3rd Baseman Evan Longoria has really started to heat up in the last month or so – well, at least in the homerun & RBI departments. In his last 30 days, Longo is tied for 4th in the American League with 8 homeruns and tied for 9th in RBI’s with 23. Evan is still only hitting .228 during that stretch, but like I have said numerous times…how many pitches does the most dangerous hitter in this lineup really see in a game?? Maybe 2 – if he is lucky.
You can tell that Evan’s sore left foot is feeling better and he is starting to drive the ball a lot more than he has for most of 2011. Because of this run on power…40% of 2011′s homeruns have come in the last month and 32% of his season’s RBI’s have come during this time. Even Rays Manager Joe Maddon tweeted about Longoria’s recent success…
If the Rays are really going to go on a run to try and make an improbable run to the playoffs…it is going to take MVP types of numbers from their biggest threat in the order to get it done. Do I think he can do it…well, let me put it this way – there is a reason I have traded every player at least 3 times on my keeper fantasy baseball roster and Evan Longoria has never been traded once. The other owners in the League either hate me or think I’m an idiot. Hey – it’s not my fault that I know when I see a special talent.
Longoria, still only 25 years old, hit his 20th homerun last night in the Rays 8-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners – and that is the 4th consecutive year Evan has done that. Just for the record – Longo has only been in the Majors for 4 years. Longoria has driven in 72 runs on the year – and has an outside shot of driving in 100 runs for the 3rd consecutive year – and don’t forget – Evan missed most of the 1st month of the year.
Evan…if you ever feel like giving this no name blogger an interview…you just let me know. Keep rakin’!
