Philadelphia Phillies Place All-Star Pitcher Cole Hamels on DL

By Cody Swartz

Cole Hamels’ left shoulder inflammation has landed the two-time All-Star on the DL, a move that is retroactive to August 13. To take Hamels’ place on the 25-man active roster, the Philadelphia Phillies have called up second baseman Pete Orr from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Hamels has not been on the DL since 2007, but it is already expected that the Phillies will activate him on Monday. Hamels is 13-7 with a 2.62 ERA this season and is leading the National League in WHIP.
