A few weeks ago when the Twins top prospect Kyle Gibson suffered an elbow injury the Twins feared the worst but hoped for the best. Well today the Twins finally got word back on Gibson, and the news was the worst. Gibson will need Tommy John Surgery and will be sidelined for the remainder of this season with a partially torn elbow ligament. The best possible situation for Gibson is that he could return to the majors by 2013.
Gibson was expected to make his major league debut for the Twins in September but instead has been shut down and will have his surgery in the next few months and then begin rehab. Like the Twins starting rotation wasn’t thin enough already, it will get thinner with Gibson going on the DL and Liriano also being placed on the DL. Pretty much nothing can go right this year for the Twins as they have suffered a miserable season and are currently 17 and a half games back in the AL Central.
