Philadelphia Phillies First Baseman Ryan Howard Diagnosed With Ruptured Left Achilles Tendon

To add injury to the Philadelphia Phillies’ embarrassing National League Division Series loss, Ryan Howard has been diagnosed with a ruptured left Achilles tendon.

Howard grounded out to end the game last night and barely made it halfway down the first baseline. He grabbed his left leg and writhed in pain, needing assistance to make it off the field.

Howard enters the first season of his five-year, $125 million contract next season. He will likely spend the first few months of the season recovering from his injury.

The Phillies have all offseason to decide who they will use in place of Howard but early speculation has John Mayberry playing first base and Domonic Brown taking over for Raul Ibanez in left field.
