Reds have no plans to trade 1B Joey Votto

By Ryan Gaydos

Cincinnati Reds GM Walt Jocketty put an end to the rumors about trading first baseman slugger and reigning NL MVP Joey Votto. This is coming after speculation over the weekend that the Reds were goign to entertain offers for Votto.

“We haven’t talked about it. I wish that people would stop writing it,” said Jocketty. “Why would we trade one of the best players in the game? We’re trying to win.”

Votto is set to earn $9 million in 2012 and $17 million by the end of the 2013 before entering free agency where he should be a hot commodity. If the market for Votto grows it may seem likely that Jocketty would end up trading him to cut cost.
