Even though the Red GM has denied reports that they might trade Joey Votto, it’s still fun to speculate. To be honest the thought never crossed my mind but the thought that Joey Votto could be a Dodger got me a little excited.
I know it’s possibly a pipe dream and it seems the Reds really aren’t going to trade him but it would be nice to speculate right?
If you ask a Cincinnati Reds fan what does their team need, the first thing they would say is “pitching” Sure they have Cueto but after that their bullpen is alright but it could be better and the Dodgers have a wealth of relievers and some good starting pitching talent in the minor leagues.
So what I’d propose is something like Ethan Martin, who even though he’s not doing all that great in our system, still has a ton of upside and a couple relief pitchers and an outfielder or 2 because I’m not sold on Drew Stubbs being their everyday center-fielder (205 strikeouts and only 15 home-runs….really?).
I think a package like that could bring him in, especially since they may not be able to pay him come free agency time. Better to get something now rather than make him a type A free agent and only get a pick out of it.
