The Philadelphia Phillies made a minor transaction today, re-signing infielder Pete Orr to a minor league deal for next season that includes an invite to spring training.
Orr initially made the 25-man roster for the Phillies this past spring but was sent back down later in the year. He eventually made his way back up and played sparingly as a backup or fill-in to Chase Utley at second base.
Orr hit .219 with a .529 OPS in 104 plate appearances, production the Phillies probably could have gotten from the majority of all Triple-A players. Orr has the versatility to play second base, third base, and shortstop, but that shouldn’t be enough for the Phillies to put him on the 25-man roster next season.
