By Cody Swartz

Ryan Howard was named the Philadelphia Phillies Player of the Year and Roy Halladay was chosen as the club’s top pitcher, according to a vote put together by MLB.com.

Howard hit 33 home runs and drove in 116 runs for the Phillies, helping the team set a franchise record with 102 regular-season wins. Halladay won 19 games and posted a 2.35 ERA as the ace of the pitching staff.

Vance Worley was selected as the Breakout Player of the Year, after winning 11 games as the team’s fifth starter.

The official MLB awards come out within the next several weeks. Halladay is considered one of the frontrunners for the NL Cy Young award and Charlie Manuel has a shot to win the NL Manager of the Year. Worley could also draw some consideration for the league’s Rookie of the Year.
