Marlins Make Play For Pujols, Reyes, Buehrle
The Miami Marlins are said to have made “substantial offers” to Albert Pujols and Jose Reyes. They have also offered Mark Buehrle a contract.
Miami’s payroll for their 2010 roster was around $53 million. With the new ballpark addition, the Marlins will be able to work with a payroll near $80 million annually. First-year manager Ozzie Guillen is loving his new situation. The General Manager actually respects his opinion and is going after the players Guillen wants the front office to sign. They also happen to be two of the best players in the game, at their respective positions.
Don’t expect any free agents to accept any offers for the time being. The Marlins are said to be interested in Carlos Beltran as well. I’m sure he will be receiving an offer from Marlins management in the coming days too. The MLB Winter Meetings are scheduled for the first week of December in Dallas. That is usually the time of the year when players begin to sign.
