Philadelphia Phillies Acquire Ty Wigginton in Trade

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired infielder/outfielder Ty Wigginton from the Colorado Rockies for cash or a player to be named later.

Wigginton posted a .242/.315/.416 statline as a reserve for the Rockies. He will be able to fill in at first base for Ryan Howard, third base for Placido Polanco, or either corner outfield spot. Wigginton will also serve as a pinch-hit bat off the bench.

Wigginton surprisingly was an All-Star just two years ago for the Baltimore Orioles. He has played for the New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and Houston Astros in addition.

In other news, with the addition of Wigginton, the Phillies likely won’t be pursuing Michael Cuddyer.
