Astros Trade Mark Melancon to the Red Sox for Jed Lowrie and Kyle Weiland

There hasn’t been many significant trades so far this off season, but that appeared to change as the Boston Red Sox are preparing for life after Jonathan Papelbon by trading for closer Mark Melancon. On the move are IF Jed Lowrie and Kyle Weiland. The Astros appeared to sell real low on a late game reliever, but if Jed Lowrie can stay healthy- he could be a mainstay in the infield in Houston. Kyle Weiland is never going to be anything sepcial so I basically just ignore the fact he was part of the trade.

This move is a strong move for the Red Sox because they have to basically rebuild their entire bullpen. Melancon is a hard thrower and he strikes guys out so he should be a pretty good option at the back end.

If I had to pick a winner of this trade- I’m going with Boston because Jed Lowrie was 100% expendable.
