Nearly as soon as it began, the John Bowker Era in Philadelphia is over. The club has announced they have parted ways with Bowker, allowing the 28-year old the opportunity to pursue a baseball career in Japan.
Bowker went 0-for-13 with seven strikeouts for the Phillies in 2011. He had gone 4-for-17 with the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier in the season, putting him at a solid .133 for the season (4-for-30).
Bowker is a first baseman and corner outfielder, and was a part of the team’s 40-man roster. Bowker is a .232 career hitter with 17 home runs and 73 runs batted in.
