Philadelphia Phillies Sign Veteran Reliever Chad Qualls to One-Year Deal
The Philadelphia Phillies have signed veteran relief pitcher Chad Qualls to a one-year deal, according to multiple sources.
Qualls was 6-8 with a 3.51 ERA in 77 appearances for the San Diego Padres in 2011. He pitched 74.1 innings, posting an 8.8 H/9 and 2.4 BB/9 rate. Qualls leads all major league relievers with 512 games pitched since 2005.
He has a 38-34 career record to go with a 3.78 ERA for four different teams. Qualls will likely fill the role of Brad Lidge, who signed with the Washington Nationals.
