The Atlanta Braves most consistent and valuable reliever in the MLB the past two seasons, Jonny Venters, has been battling elbow soreness since Sunday. Venters has established himself as the most dominant left-handed reliever in the MLB the past two seasons. He has a 1.89 ERA, 1.146 WHIP, 9.9 K/9 and a 4.8 WAR over the past two seasons. He has also led the MLB in appearances by a reliever over the past two years at 164.
The Braves decided to give him rest and not push him at this point. There is no need potentially causing him to risk any injuries.
One thing is certain, the Braves cannot afford to lose Venters. It has been alarming at how many appearances he has made the past two seasons. He has fatigued the past two seasons in September. The Braves are hoping that better depth will prevent him from being over-used this season.
The plan is for him to make an appearance next Tuesday in a game.
