The above photo looks strange, but somewhat familiar, doesn’t it?
That’s Miami Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison. I’ve highlighted his jersey and helmet and inverted them as an exact photo negative. You can see Omar Infante unaltered on the right of the shot in the team’s new alternate uniforms that feature orange caps with a black jersey. That just so happens to be the perfect photo negative of the old teal and white unis the Florida Marlins debuted with back in 1993.
A big tip of the cap to David Kaleida of 6-4-3 Putout for making this discovery. He dubbed these the “Marlins Bizzaro Uniforms.”
I guess the only people who don’t think the Marlins’ hideous new orange hats look odd are old film photographers from back in the team’s early years. They’d be used to seeing Marlins players in orange and black in the dark room.
This could just be a really odd coincidence, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this color flip was intentional. Afterall, the franchise has completely turned over just about everything else.
Marlins stars Hanley Ramirez and Jose Reyes have already taken a liking to the new orange look, both dying their hair bright orange. They’ll both try to make the horrendous home run feature at Marlins Park go off against Kyle Lohse and the Cardinals.
