Game 10 Preview: Pittsburgh Pirates at Arizona Diamondbacks

The Pittsburgh Pirates (3-6) are in Arizona today for their night game against the Diamondbacks (6-3).

Erik Bedard (0-2, 2.25 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 7K) will be on the mound for the Bucs against Arizona’s Joe Saunders (0-0, 0.00, .857, 4).

Bedard has pitched well so far for Pittsburgh, allowing just three runs in his 12 innings pitched, but has an 0-2 record to show for it, including a 1-0 Opening Day loss to Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Saunders tossed seven innings of shutout ball in his first start of the season. Given Pittsburgh’s offense this season, I wouldn’t be overly surprised to see Saunders’ ERA still sitting at 0.00 after tonight.

The Pirates snapped a five-game losing streak last night when they beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1 and avoided suffering a second consecutive road sweep to a California team.

Kevin Correia started that one, lasting six innings and allowing just one run on three hits and a walk. He struck out two and now has a season ERA of 1.50. Joel Hanrahan recorded his first save of the season in his first such opportunity.

Here’s how the offense did:

Garrett Jones hit his first home run of the season, and Andrew McCutchen, Alex Presley and Casey McGehee continue to be the only Pirates really hitting the ball.

Tonight’s game is scheduled for a 9:40 ET start.
