After dropping the first game of the series to the Astros on Friday, the Cincinnati Reds dominated the Astros on Saturday and played catch up on Sunday. It was Jay Bruce who came through with the winning run on Sunday that propelled the Reds to their first lead of the day. He hit his fourth homerun in as many days to give the Reds the win.
Bruce laced a Fernando Rodriguez offering, his first pitch to the left-hander, 381 feet over the right centerfield wall in the bottom of the 8th inning.
The Cincinnati Reds had tied the score an inning earlier when Joey Votto hit a double down the right field line to score two. It was his third and fourth RBI for the day. He had a two-run homer in the 4th to tie the score at 2-2.
Mat Latos pitched pretty well. He gave up 10 hits and 5 runs, all earned in his first start since his shutout performance against the San Francisco Giants. Logan Ondrusek (1-0) was masterful in relief pitching a perfect 8th and picking up the win. Sean Marshall pitched a perfect 9th to get his 5th save in 6 chances. It was his first save since the debacle against the Giants during the last game of that series on Wednesday.
The Cincinnati Reds will have the day off tomorrow. They will start a three game series with the Chicago Cubs. Bronson Arroyo will take the mound and see if he can continue his streak of excellent pitching for the Reds.
