Michael Schwimer Says Philadelphia Phillies Will Be Calling Up Three Players

According to Michael Schwimer’s Twitter account, the Philadelphia Phillies will be calling up three players – Jake Diekman, Hector Luna, and Raul Valdes.

Diekman is a left-handed reliever who has been excelling out of the bullpen in Triple-A, as he has a 1-0 record, five saves, and 22 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched to go with an 0.59 ERA. He will replace Joe Savery, who was sent down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier this morning.

Luna is a utility infielder who can play multiple positions, and he is hitting .274 with 10 extra-base hits and 12 RBIs in Triple-A. He will probably take the place of Laynce Nix, who has been tearing it up for the big league Phillies, but will likely go to the 15-day DL because of an aggravated calf.

Valdes is a left-hander who will make three lefties out of the bullpen (Antonio Bastardo and Diekman). He is 3-4 with a 4.51 ERA in his big league career, and he is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA so far at Lehigh Valley.

The Phillies as an organization have not yet confirmed these moves, but they seem to be logical and the team will likely make an announcement sometime tomorrow morning. The Phillies have Thursday off following a three-game series sweep at the hands of the New York Mets and they will host the San Diego Padres in a three-game weekend series beginning tomorrow night. The Phillies are currently just 14-18 and mired in fifth place in the NL East.
