Ryan Dempster Finally Gets Win; Builds Trade Value

By gilgerard

Ryan Dempster has been extremely good this season. It’s crazy to think he’s got an ERA of 2.59 and is 1-3. It goes to show how important an offense and bullpen are to individual wins for starting pitchers.

Last night, Dempster finally got his first win of the season by taking a perfect game into the 6th inning during a shocking Chicago Cubs rout over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

What I like most about this hot streak is that Dempster is building trade value for himself and the organization. I expect Ryan Dempster to continue being the professional he is during this process and continue putting forth his best effort. There are certain players that lack effort if they know they’re going to be traded at some point, and I think the writing is on the wall for Dempster. He’s been a guy that’s gone from closer to starter, and has done everything the organization has asked. He doesn’t get into issues off the field, and I think a team is going to be lucky to add the kind of player he is.

There are going to be multiple teams wanting Dempster. He’s not an ace, but he’s going to come in and pitch. He’s going to eat innings and be a quality starter down the stretch and into the postseason.

The Chicago Cubs need to rebuild, and that’s the end of the story right there. Ryan Dempster is pitching like an ace, and that’s going to raise his trade value. I don’t expect the Cubs to go crazy here, but I think they’re going to add two impact prospects when it’s all said and done, and that’s good enough for me.

Thank you Ryan Dempster for helping this organization rebuild. You’re truly a pros pro.
