Boston Red Sox Trade Kevin Youkilis To The Chicago White Sox
Kevin Youkilis is going to have to change his socks. The Boston Red Sox have traded the former All-Star third baseman to the Chicago White Sox. This deal works for both teams because the Red Sox needed to move Youk and the White Sox needed a warm body to play third base.
The Red Sox picked up Zach Stewart and Brent Lillibridge, two players that have struggled this season. Stewart has a bad habit of giving up home runs in bunches and while Lilly can play almost every position, his offense has vanished. Way too many strikeouts for him to be depended on.
Seriously, Kevin Youkilis could spend half of the season on the DL and he would be better than anything the White Sox have at third base. Brent Morel? His back is pretty much cooked and I would not expect him back anytime soon. Orlando Hudson? That experiment was cute but it certainly is not working out on the offensive end.
He might be slowing down a bit, but Kevin Youkilis might just need a change of scenery to get back to his old ways. He will be out to prove that he still has something left in the tank. He literally can not do worse at third than any player the White Sox have thrown out there all season. You might think that is a joke, but before Saturday, the OPS of White Sox third baseman was .460.
I expect that Kevin Youkilis is going to get a warm welcome on the South Side. The White Sox desperately need offense at third and it might be a shot in the arm for the team. He adds extra experience and a potent bat. All of these are good things for the surprising White Sox.
