The New York Yankees win the Subway Series Citi Field Version

The New York Yankees took two out of three games from the New York Mets this weekend at Citi Field.  They won all three games at Yankee Stadium.  The Yankees finished 5-1 against the Mets this season.  The three games this past weekend had scores of 6-4, 4-3 and 6-5.  The Yankees lose the first game 6-4 on Friday night.  The other two games they were able to win.

The Yankees won it with pretty good pitching, a good bullpen and some timely homeruns.  In the first game the only game the Yankees lost Andy Pettitte gave up five runs in the first and the Yankees couldn’t recover.  Pettitte did settle down after that and keep them in the game but the Yankees couldn’t get all the way back.  Frank Francisco struggled in the ninth but saved the game for the Mets.  Jon Niese pitched well for the Mets.  David Wright and Justin Turner each had two hits for the Mets.  Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez each had two hits and Robinson Cano had two RBI.

The Yankees won the second game 4-3.  Ivan Nova and Chris Young both pitched pretty well.  Young had a great game going until he ran into trouble in the sixth inning.  The Yankees bullpen used five pitchers who completely shut the Mets down.  The Mets bullpen wasn’t bad but Jon Rauch did give up a homerun that cost the Mets the game.  Nick Swisher had two hits and Raul Ibanez had three RBI.  The Mets had seven hits but not on batter had more then a hit.

The Yankees won the third game 6-5.  They had a 5-1 lead which was blown but then they got a big homerun from Robinson Cano late to win the game.  CC Sabathia and R.A. Dickey started and it was billed as a pitchers duel but it didn’t work out that way.  Sabathia didn’t pitch that bad but he wasn’t helped by his defense.  Dickey didn’t have a good knuckleball and he struggled more then he has in quite some time.  The Yankees bullpen was great again and the Mets bullpen gave up another big homerun.  Cano had two hits and Ibanez had three hits.  The Mets had five players with two hits.

The reason the Yankees won the series is because they had some timely homeruns and their bullpen was batter then the Mets.  The Yankees just have so much firepower and they are never out of a game because of that.  They have struggled with runners in scoring position this year but when a guy steps into the box he is in scoring position on the Yankees.  The Yankees will play against the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox at home this week and try to expand their first place lead in the AL East.
