The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox split a four game series
The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox split a four game series. The White Sox won the first two games and the Yankees won the last two games. The scores were 4-3, 14-7, 4-0 and 4-2. I am going to take a look at how the Yankees split the four game series after losing the first two. I will also take a brief look ahead for the Yankees.
The first game the Yankees had control of 3-1 but then blew it late and ended up losing 4-3. The Yankees didn’t have Rafael Soriano available and with a two run lead in the ninth they decided to mix and match. Clay Rapada had an easy ground ball double play to him and he threw the ball into centerfield. They brought in David Robertson and he gave up a three run homerun which ended up being the game winner. Alex Rodriguez led the Yankees offense with two hits. The star for the White Sox was Dayan Viciedo who hit the game winning three run homerun.
The second game was a complete blowout by the White Sox. Adam Warren started for the Yankees making his major league debut. He wasn’t good at all and David Phelps had to come on in relief. Phelps took the loss but pitched much better then Warren. The Yankees used three other pitchers including Wise the outfielder who retired both batters that he faced. Nick Swisher and Andruw Jones each had two hits. Jose Quintana got the win for the White Sox but he didn’t pitch that well. He gave up eight hits and six runs in six innings. The bullpen did a good job for the White Sox. Alexi Ramirez led the offense with four hits but Paul Konerko, A.J. Peirzynski and Gordon Beckham each had three hits.
The third game of the series was a great pitching performance by Hiroki Kuroda to lead the Yankees to victory. Kuroda pitched seven shutout innings giving up three hits. He tied a career high with 11 strikeouts. Dave Robertson, Boone Logan and Rafael Soriano closed out the game. Wise led the team with three hits and two RBI. Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano each had two hits. Jake Peavy took the loss for the White Sox pitching a complete game. The White Sox only managed three hits.
The final game which was today the Yankees won 4-2. Phil Hughes gave up two runs and three hits in the first inning. He ended up pitching eight innings not giving up another run. Eric Chavez and Cano each hit a two run homerun. Gavin Floyd started for the White Sox and pitched ok but not great. Rios had two hits to lead the White Sox.
The Yankees have a nice six game lead in the AL East. They will head to Tampa Bay for a three game series beginning on Monday night. They will have off on Thursday and then play a four game series in Boston before the All-Star Break. The four games includes a doubleheader.
