The Milwaukee Brewers are hoping to rebound from their disappointing Fourth of July loss against the Miami Marlins. It was the second consecutive game in which the Brewers and Marlins went into extra innings. It was also the second consecutive game Aramis Ramirez played hero for Milwaukee.
Ramirez singled in the eighth inning to give the Brewers a 6-5 lead but unfortunately closer John Axford was unable to secure the save once again as he surrendered a two-out solo home run to Gaby Sanchez which sent the game into extras. Hanley Ramirez was the real hero of the game when he recorded a RBI single to give the Marlins the win.
The following is the Brewers lineup against the Marlins for Thursday afternoon’s series finale:
Center Field: Carlos Gomez
Right Field: Norichika Aoki
Left Field: Ryan Braun
Third Base: Aramis Ramirez
First Base: Corey Hart
Second Base: Rickie Weeks
Shortstop: Cody Ranson
Catcher: Martin Maldonado
Pitcher: Michael Fiers
Michael Fiers will take the mound for the Brewers, as he attempts to give Milwaukee a fighting chance at a series win. Fiers is coming off another outstanding performance in which he did not allow a run on two hits in a victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is hoping one more solid outing will be enough to convince manager Ron Roenicke to keep him in the starting lineup once Shaun Marcum returns from the disabled list.
Carlos Gomez will start in center field and look to continue his hot hitting at the plate while Cody Ransom and Martin Maldonado will be back in the starting lineup. Both players have made huge contributions offensively and defensively so expect nothing less today in an important fourth game of the series.
Ryan Braun, Ramirez, and Corey Hart need to continue playing well offensively because they are the core of the team’s batting order and are the only chance for the Brewers to muster runs. The rest of the team feeds off of these three hitters and even though several players are able to contribute it is these guys who set the tone.
