The New York Yankees lose two out of three in Tampa to the Tampa Bay Rays

The New York Yankees lost two out of three games against the Tampa Bay Rays.  They lost the first two games to put their losing streak at Tropicana Field at nine.  They were able to salvage the final game of the series on the Fourth Of July.  The Yankees needed to come back and win against an All-Star Pitcher in David Price.  Here is a look at the series and why the Yankees lost two out of three games.

The first game the Yankees lost by the score of 4-3.  The Yankees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but they couldn’t hold the lead.  Freddy Garcia started and pitched well, the bullpen pitched well for the most part.  David Robertson got charged with his third loss of the season.  Matt Moore started for the Rays and pitched pretty well.  Their bullpen shut down the Yankees completely the last couple of innings.

Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano each had two hits.  B.J. Upton and Will Rhymes each had two hits for the Rays.

The second game of the series the Yankees lost by the score of 7-4.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and only suffered his third loss of the season.  Nova pitched ok but his defense didn’t help him out.  The bullpen pitched a couple of innings giving up a run.  James Shields started for the Rays and didn’t pitch that well.  The Rays bullpen once again completely shut down the Yankees.  Sean Rodriguez led the attack for the Rays with three hits and a couple of RBI.  Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, DeWayne Wise and Raul Ibanez each had two hits.  The Yankees once again had a 2-0 lead in the first inning and a 3-0 lead in the game that they couldn’t hold.

The Yankees won the last game of the series against the Rays by the score of 4-3.  This win broke a nine game losing streak at Tropicana Field for the Yankees.  The Yankees turned the tables in this one and made a comeback and held on for the win.  David Phelps started and pitched very well but he couldn’t go too far into the game.  Boone Logan got his third win of the season but pitched the worst out of the five bullpen guys.  David Price started for the Rays and pitched very well.  Kyle Farnsworth pitched very bad for the Rays and blew the game for them.  Jeter, Rodriguez and Cano each had two hits for the Yankees.  Cano had two RBI.  Elliott Johnson had two hits for the Rays to lead them.

The Yankees lost two out of three because they would get an early lead and not be able to hold it.  The pitching needed to be a little bit better, the Rays drive the Yankees nuts.  They especially drive them nuts on the turf.  The Rays present a bad matchup for the Yankees especially in Tampa.  The Rays run wild over the Yankees and just drive them nuts.  The games were close so it really wasn’t too difficult to see what happened in this series.  The Yankees will have a day off and then head up to Boston to play four games before the All Star Break.
