MLB Rumors: Joey Votto Has Minor Knee Surgery; Out 3-4 Weeks
As of right now, there are MLB Rumors about Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto having minor knee surgery. Here are a collection of tweets about the rumors, so you can draw your own conclusions.
Votto is out of the lineup tonight against the struggling Arizona Diamondbacks, which I noticed while adjusting my fantasy lineup. Initially, I figured it was just a day off against the All-Star lefty Wade Miley, but now I’m not so sure. Even if Votto misses two weeks, those two weeks could mean a whole lot in a tightly contested National League Central.
Votto, who has a slash-line of .342/.465/.601/1.066, is among the National League leaders in basically every important offensive category. And if it wasn’t for the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen, we would be talking about Joey Votto winning his second MVP award.
The Reds (50-38) are one game ahead of McCutchen’s Pirates for first place in the National League Central and are two games back of the Washington Nationals for the best record in the National League. Outside of Votto, the Reds don’t really have a go-to bat that can carry the offense for two weeks. They have several good hitters like Jay Bruce, Brandon Phillips, and Todd Frazier, but the void that Votto leaves is a big one.
Obviously, until something is actually confirmed, isn’t official. We could just have a lot of smoke with little fire. We all know how volatile Twitter can be when breaking news. But according to WCPO, which a Cincinnati news station, it’s all but confirmed.
Of course, we will keep you updated on this rumor if it turns out to be true or false.
UPDATE: Seems legit. From Dan Plesac of the MLB Network.
