Jonathan Sanchez has not exactly worked out for the Kansas City Royals. They traded Melky Cabrera in order to get him. Yeah, not a smart move so the Royals are going to send him to the Colorado Rockies for Jeremy Guthrie, a pitcher who is struggling in his own right.
Both of these guys should hopefully benefit from a change of scenery. I mean, they can not possibly do worse than they already have. Jonathan Sanchez and Guthrie have good stuff but they just can not put it all together. Maybe switching spots will help the two overcome the issues that they are currently having.
I expect the Royals to make a couple more moves before the deadline. They are not exactly out of the AL Central race and they could always use more pitching. They have the pieces to move in order to get it too. This should just be the first of many moves that they attempt to make. You can’t just sit back and wait every year. Jonathan Sanchez did not work out but they should keep looking for arms.
This has been the second trade of the day so hopefully this is a good sign for the rest of the deadline. It is always a lot of fun when many teams are making moves as they try to improve for the stretch run. This move might fly under the radar, but it could end up being a good one. If both pitchers pitch like they are capable of, this will be a win-win trade for both parties.
Maybe Jonathan Sanchez can find that good stuff that he once had out in California. If not, it was worth a shot.
