San Francisco Giants @ St. Louis Cardinals Series Preview

With both teams coming off series sweeps, the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals bring momentum into the important weekday series.

The Cardinals are working on staying within striking distance of at least a wildcard spot. They are currently only two and a half games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates. They are seven games behind central division leader Cincinnati. While the Giants continue to try to extend their lead in the National League West. They hold a one half game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are also coming off a sweep in their weekend series and will open up one against the Colorado Rockies.

The first time the teams met was in May. They split a two game series. Madison Bumgarner was tagged with a lost in game one, but Matt Cain came away with a win the day after. The weekday series will be their last meeting of the regular season.

The probable pitching match ups are

Monday: Cain (10-4) vs. Jake Westbrook (10-8)

Tuesday: Barry Zito (8-8) vs. Lance Lynn (13-4)

Wednesday: Ryan Vogelsong  (9-5) vs.  Joe Kelly (2-4)

Thursday: Bumgarner (12-6) vs. Adam Wainwright (9-10)
