The Tampa Bay Rays couldn’t get Evan Longoria back at a better time, as they prepare for their homestretch at a potential wild card birth. The one thing can be said about Tampa and that’s the fact they fight to the very end.
The Rays very much stood pat at the deadline when I thought they should get a bat and maybe it was because of the return of Longoria. Adding him back to the lineup is going to be very important for the squad moving forward as it’s like trading for a monster bat anyway.
What kind of impact do I think he’ll have on this team? I think it’s going to be HUGE. Just his presence in the lineup will take the pressure off guys like Ben Zobrist, Carlos Pena, and BJ Upton. His production will be just as good- or so I seem to think. It has to be good to get his personality back in the clubhouse as well as he’s the emotional leader as well as the physical leader.
This team is built on loving to play the game. They take after their manager Joe Madden probably more than any team in baseball, and that’s why they’re incredibly special to watch.
Evan Longoria was picked by many to win the MVP, and it’s unfortunate he hasn’t been healthy. I hope he’s able to give the Tampa Bay Rays a shot in the arm because I think we all want them to overcome the New York Yankees- except for Yankees fans of course.
We’ll see what happens but it should be very solid stretch run for Tampa Bay.
