Who would have thought the Pittsburgh Pirates would be in the middle of MLB Rumors time in the middle of August? Yup- not many I bet. I’ve always liked where the Pirates were headed, but I had 2013 as their breakout year- not 2014 but hey- that’s why you play the games right? With that being said, I think the Pirates have to be considering calling up their number 1 pitching prospect, Jameson Taillon.
Yes I know, his stats don’t scream “call me up now!”, but I’ve seen him pitch, and he’s become much more polished than he was 2 years ago. This kid is the real deal, and the Pirates could use another arm…somewhere. Even if this kid is in the bullpen for the rest of the year for an inning here- an inning there- it gives the Pirates a power arm. I wouldn’t recommend the bullpen down the stretch as I think this kid is an ace waiting to break out, but you never know what a team will do when they’re on the brink of the playoffs.
The Pirates fanbase deserves to see a winner. Jameson Taillon will be able to bring an energy to the team, and the pitching staff will automatically improve. I believe if the Pirates brought him up for 3-6 starts, they’ll be able to sneak into the postseason. Sometimes you have to take risks, and I think Taillon is as good a risk as anyone around.
Come on Pittsburgh, let’s see your young blood get you into the postseason.
