Scott Hairston Contract Extenstion

The Mets have yet to offer a contract extension to outfielder Scott Hairston. Hairston, 32, is hitting .274/.315/.529 with 14 home runs and 44 rbi. Last season, Mets GM Sandy Alderson signed left handed reliever Tim Byrdak to a contract extension.

Kelly Shoppach Acquisition

The Mets traded for catcher Kelly Shoppach not only to address the team’s need for a catcher, but also to see how he fairs with the rotation in terms of relationships and philosophies before considering to resign him in the off-season.

Mets void Scott Patterson

The Mets have voided the contract of Scott Patterson, the right handed pitcher came down with a shoulder injury and doesn’t look to be back in the system next year.

C.J. Nitkowski September Call-Up

The Mets signed C.J. Nitkowski in July and has gone from and after thought to a possible solution.

“He’s certainly in the conversation.” said a team official, Nitkowski tried out for the team in spring training, although he was impressive, the team didn’t sign him but pitching coach Dan Warthen told the 39-year old not to retire, the team signed him later in the season and sent him to double-a Binghamton. after 4 2/3 scoreless innings the team called him up to triple-a where he threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Should the crafty lefty continue his hot surge then he pitch in a major league game for the first time in seven years.

“If he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’ll be up.” says a team official.
