For the life of me, I can’t really understand all the MLB Rumors still going on around the Chicago Cubs. This is one of the weird MLB trade rumors that no one can really grasp one way or another. The Cubs are reportedly not interested in trading Carlos Marmol. Ummm, hello? Earth to Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer? Marmol is as up and down as Amanda Bynes seems to be right now and is being paid a ton of money to be up and down. Seeing as a closer only really has value when their team is winning in the ninth, I can’t see how Marmol impacts this or next year’s team.
If a team came to the Cubs wanting Marmol, and were willing to pay for his salary and give up two decent prospects, why not? Why not pull the trigger? Marmol is literally wasting away on this club right now because this club is beyond bad. They’re going to be bad for the rest of this year, and will likely be bad for next year unless they go out and spend some money, so what’s the point?
If Marmol is actually untouchable, then who is touchable? I mean, think about it. The Cubs supposedly are rebuilding, right? Every high priced veteran is on the block, right? What is Marmol exactly? I hope this is some sort of ploy to up his trade value because I’m not really seeing it and it’s driving me nuts trying to figure it out.
Should the Cubs trade Marmol? I seem to think so. I think a lot of Cubs fans would agree. It’s time to see what kind of value he has at this point, because there’s no reason to pay a guy $9 million to get three outs in the ninth inning when he will only have the opportunity to close 30 times next year.
Sigh–it never comes easy Cubs fans, right?
