The Baltimore Orioles surprised a lot of people when they called up Manny Machado earlier this month, when most didn’t think he was ready. I was one of those people, and it looks like I was wrong as Machado has been more than decent at the big league level. Well, MLB Rumors continue to swirl around the plan for Dylan Bundy. Look- the Orioles still have a shot at the postseason, and there’s no reason to go soft on this kid. I think he’s ready, and I think for 3-4 starts in September- could go a LONG way for his development, and the Orioles chances at the postseason.
In the minors, Bundy has been awesome. At 3 levels, he’s sporting a 2.01 ERA to go along with a 5-1 K/BB ratio in only 99 innings pitched. Assuming Bundy will throw 140 innings this year, that really is 4 starts in September.
Look- this kid is strong like a bull, has a very clean motion, and has electric stuff. Sure, he’s only 19 and pretty raw, but honestly – I think that would serve as a positive against hitters for the first time.
When the Orioles need a start, who better than Bundy? Trading for someone like Joe Saunders isn’t going to put this team over the top. So again I ask- why not? Age doesn’t matter if the kid’s stuff translates to the big leagues, and I think it does. I’ve seen him throw and I can’t think of a better pitching prospect right now.
Let’s see what the Orioles decide to do, but if I were them- Dylan Bundy is a call up in September for 3-4 starts…guaranteed.
