While there’s still plenty of hot topics to discuss for the regular season, one of the hottest MLB rumors from Monday involves the Minnesota Twins two years from now and how they appear to be the favorites to host the 2014 MLB All-Star Game at Target Field.
“Dialogue between the Minnesota Twins and commissioners office has increased noticeably over the past couple weeks,” Twins owner Jim Pohlad said, “and we believe something is really imminent.”
Obviously, this would be a great honor for a Minnesota franchise considering they just started playing at Target Field in 2010. The New York Mets are scheduled to host the All-Star Game at Citi Field next season after the Kansas City Royals hosted the big event in July. With the way things have gone for the Twins the past two seasons, this could bring some excitement to fans in Minnesota.
Unfortunately, the Twins appear to be on their way to a second-straight season at the bottom of the American League Central division. With the recent importance of teams winning the All-Star Game to earn the rights of home-field advantage in the World Series, maybe the Twins will be serious contenders again by the time 2014 rolls around, so the game will have more value to the franchise.
Either way, it’s always an accomplishment to host these types of events and it would certainly be great for the city of Minneapolis.
