The St. Louis Cardinals are in the hunt for another postseason berth this year, but have some ways to go to catch the Cincinnati Reds. I’ve been saying for awhile that the Cardinals need to be active in trading for a pitcher. Well, they didn’t trade for that pitcher, and it might have been because they banked on the hope that super prospect Shelby Miller would be ready to go by September.
Well, MLB Rumors are floating around that Miller will get the call in September when A) rosters expand, and B) when his team’s playoffs are completed. The team clearly isn’t concerned about the lackluster numbers he’s put up in the minors and believes his stuff is going to transition to the big leagues no matter what his numbers are.
I think this is a really good move for the team. Miller was fighting for a position spot this spring before being sent back to the minors, but a lot of people had him as a top 10 prospect in all of baseball. There’s no reason to not see what Miller can do at the big league level, and frankly I think he’s an asset for the team down the stretch. Adding young new blood excites teams, players and fan bases all the time and this is no different. When any team gets to see a kid come up and enjoy playing, a lot of good can come of it.
The Cardinals are always a never say die bunch, so I believe they’re primed to make that run in September. Miller is only going to help.
